I work with drawing, sculpture and installation. My work has a theatrical expression where I often stage my drawings and objects and present them as small performances or plays. 18-th century image montages and perspective theatres serve as staring points for some of my works. I find these paper works intriguing with their simple solutions of creating a sense of illusion and magic. I am interested in how people interact and relate to each other, how they follow codes and rules of behaviour and their wish to present themselves with perfection and control. I often find motifs for my pictures in situations where people have to maintain a controlled appearance and take part of a rigid social structure, where the roles are carefully played and the codes of conduct are strictly followed. The aesthetics I use bare references to Victorianism and the bourgeoisie, which can be seen as a metaphor for the superficial, of keeping up appearances and maintain an impeccable and spotless façade. The more impressive the appearance the less we see what lies behind. I want to give the viewer a feeling that the façade is about to come down a little, and that which has been hidden is slightly showing through. Like a short moment of chaos.
